SMARTS (St. Mary's Arts) Lunchtime Concert

Leicester based performers, Baritone Roy Birch and Pianist Ian Orr, present a lunchtime concert for SMARTS (St. Mary's Arts) at St. Mary's Church, Hinckley on Wednesday 1st October starting at 1pm until about 1.45pm. Roy's musical education began as a chorister at Leicester Cathedral. He then studied at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, gaining experience as a soloist at many famous London venues. However, following a serious illness which robbed him of most of his useful sight, he turned to teaching and qualified as a keyboard technician. He has recently returned to singing as he says "just for the love of it"!
Ian was born in Leicester starting piano lessons at an early age. He also studied organ with Frederic Alt before studying organ, piano, composition and conducting at the Royal College of Music. Ian has been Head of Music at several schools in Leicester and was Organist & Choirmaster at St. Thomas' Church, South Wigston for many years.
Their programme of light classical music includes music by Hubert Parry, C.V. Stanford, Peter Warlock and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
