Another hourly train to Coventry and the opening of a new station in Kenilworth is promised as part of new franchise deal.
Nuneaton will benefit from improved rail services in December as a new company takes over the franchise to run rail services in the region.
West Midlands Trains Ltd have promised nearly £1 billion of investment across the whole of the region as part of the contract.
For Nuneaton Station there will be:
- an additional hourly service in each direction between Nuneaton and Coventry, delivering three trains per hour on Saturday and two trains per hour Monday to Friday and Sunday.
- Earlier and later train services between Nuneaton and Coventry every day of the week, including Sunday.
- Enhanced services further afield, with a new hourly service between Coventry and Leamington following the opening of the new station at Kenilworth
In addition to this, the new franchise promises general improvements to the quality of stations, trains and customer service for passengers.
For the first time, passengers will also be entitled to 25% compensation if their train is delayed by more than 15 minutes.
West Midlands Trains Ltd is a partnership between Abellio, East Japan Railway Company and Mitsui & Co Ltd. The company was awarded the franchise by the Department of Transport in August this year. The franchise will operate from 10 December 2017 until March 2026 and will cover the train service across the whole of the West Midlands as well as trains from London Euston to Crewe and from Liverpool to Birmingham.
