The plan is to build a new scout hut which will replace two aging buildings currently being used by the group at its base in Nanpantan Road.
The 1st Nanpantan Scouts will benefit from a new scout hut due to the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Scout Group provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for young people aged 4 to 25 in Loughborough and the wider area.
The project has received £65,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is one of 10 projects chosen by Charnwood Borough Council.
Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “I am so pleased that the 1st Nanpantan Scouts will soon be meeting up in a new, modern space.
“The new scout hut will not only benefit members of the scout group but also the wider community, as the new facilities include meeting rooms and spaces that can be booked out for all manner of activities.
“It will make a fantastic addition to the Nanpantan area of Loughborough and provide opportunities for people of all ages across the borough.”
The group plans to build a new scout hut which will replace two aging buildings currently being used by the group at its base in Nanpantan Road.
The existing buildings were built in the 1950s as a temporary base. Over 70 years later, the new hut will secure its future as a thriving group for young people that will also be available for use by the local community.
Carl Travis-Roberts, group scout leader at 1st Nanpantan Scout Group said: “We are very grateful to Charnwood Borough Council for supporting our project. The UK shared prosperity monies are a vital part of our funding, enabling us to build the new facilities.”
Work is due to start on the hut in the next few weeks and the aim is to have it completed in the spring.
