The borough council has suspended its garden waste collection service for at least two weeks.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has suspended its garden waste collection service for at least two weeks.

It's because of a result of staff shortages resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.

Refuse black bin and recycling collections will continue as normal and are unaffected by this change.

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Director for Environmental Planning, Matt Bowers said:

These are unprecedented circumstances that have forced us to make this difficult decision in order to divert our resources to the more critical refuse and recycling collection service.  We appreciate the inconvenience this will create for our residents and hope they understand these are exceptional circumstances which are beyond the council’s control.  We will keep this under continual review with the aim of restoring the service as soon as possible.

We apologise for this inconvenience. In the meantime, we would encourage customers to manage their garden waste at home such as by home composting if they can.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Stuart Bray said:

I can confirm that people will not be out of pocket. If this situation lasts more than a couple of weeks it is my intention to extend the current charging period to ensure people get at least 12 months they have paid for.

Customers are asked to bear with us at this difficult time.
