An investigation is underway after incidents in the area of Beveridge Lane, Bardon Hill.

Police initially received two reports - one at 6.30 am and one at 7.44 am.

The first was a call reporting that he had witnessed a man being attacked by two dogs.

An officer attended; however, no victim was found, and no dogs were located.

Afterwards, a victim was identified and was spoken to by officers.

A second call reported a further three people had been bitten by a dog in the same location.

In the interest of public and officer safety, firearms officers were deployed. A police dog and its handler also attended.

Two loose dogs were found. They were safely removed and are currently in secure kennels.

The breed of both dogs has been confirmed as being Caucasian Shepherd.

Following further enquiries, a further two people have come forward to report they were also bitten by a dog in the same location.

None of the six people injured are believed to have suffered serious injuries but they did require medical treatment.

Two people – a girl aged 17 and a man aged 47 – were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog in a public place.

The 47-year-old man was also arrested for a further two offences under the Animal Welfare Act.

They have both been released under investigation while officers continue to carry out enquiries.

Due to a prior report being made to police concerning the dogs, the force has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
