Man bailed after over two hour rooftop confrontation with police

It happened on Barrie Road in Hinckley.

Police and firefighters from both Hinckley and Nuneaton were called to reports to a fire on a roof in Barrie Road last night (Tuesday 17th August).

A man was reportedly on top of a house with officers engaging with him from 11:30pm through to 1:45am when he came down.

Despite the fire, nobody was injured.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing arson with intent to endanger life and causing criminal damage. He remains in custody.

On Thursday police confirmed the man had been released on bail as their enquiries continue. 

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said,

"Shortly before 11.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 17 August) police were called to Barrie Road in Hinckley following a report that a man was on the roof of a property.

"It was reported that a fire had been started within the roof space and officers attended, along with colleagues from the fire service. The fire was extinguished.

"Officers continued to engage with the man, who came down from the roof at around 1.45am.

"The man, aged 32, was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and causing criminal damage. He remains in custody and enquiries are continuing.

"No-one was injured during the incident."
