Mira release statement following fire

More than 30 firefighters were called in to fight a severe fire at Mira on the A5 near Higham on the Hill.

Both Leicestershire and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the site just before 2pm on Sunday 24th May.

Fifteen cars and two test calibration sleds were involved after a fire started in a single storey temporary building measuring 15m x 35m on the Mira estate.

The statement from HORIBA MIRA said: "The fire which broke out at MIRA Technology Park just before 2pm on Sunday 24th May, took place in a temporary structure used to store and prepare vehicles in the vicinity of HORIBA MIRA’s Safety Development facilities. 

The emergency services were called at 1.55pm and the fire was extinguished by 4pm.  Ten fire engines and four special appliances were deployed.

There were no casualties. 

Investigations into the cause of the fire are on-going, but there are no suspicious circumstances.  Fire investigations will conclude on 26th May 2020 while insurance inspectors expect to need several weeks to conclude their investigations. 

Damage was confined to a 15m x 35m temporary structure, 15 road vehicles and two test calibration sleds. 

No permanent buildings or technical facilities were damaged, and test and engineering operations can continue unaffected for HORIBA MIRA and its tenants.

Customers whose vehicles were involved have been informed.
