A man has died after an incident during a race at Mallory Park Circuit in Leicestershire.
In a statement the operators of Mallory Park, Real Motorsport Limited, confirmed " a competitor died from his injuries following a racing accident at the circuit today, Saturday 26th August 2023."
"Mallory Park circuit had been hired for a single day race meeting managed by the Vintage Sports Car Club."
The circuit confirmed that the incident took place during the second race of the day and despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man passed away.
"An investigation by the appropriate authorities are now underway, following the standard procedures in place for this type of accident,"
The Vintage Sports Car Club has held the event at Mallory Park for a number of years which sees "pre-1918 machinery" taking part. The event was billed as the group's "final race meeting of the season."
VSCC has posted a statement from Motorsport UK online.
The statement said: "The thoughts of everyone at Motorsport UK are with his family and friends, the Vintage Sports-Car Club and members of the motorsport community.
Motorsport UK has initiated a full investigation into the circumstance of the incident and will work closely with the Vintage Sports-Car Club and relevant authorities."
