"We understand that customers and staff at The Moon & Bell will be disappointed."
The Moon and Bell Pub in Wards End has been put up for sale by JD Wetherspoons and so the future of the pub could be at risk.
JD Wetherspoon plc has said that it is a commercial decision to dispose of 32 public houses across the UK
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “On occasion Wetherspoon does put some of its pubs up for sale.
“This is a commercial decision.
“We understand that customers and staff at The Moon & Bell will be disappointed with it.
“The pub will continue to operate as a Wetherspoon outlet until it is sold.”
The Amber Rooms which is another Wetherspoons in the town is unaffected by the closures.
The 32 pubs are being marketed by commercial property specialists CBRE and Savills.
