Leicestershire police to run 100km in just a single day

A team of 12 officers are taking part in the Peak District Challenge this weekend in aid of charity.

Setting out from Bakewell Showground, participants will run or walk the gruelling route that takes in some of the most picturesque countryside in the country.

The 'Ultra challenge' involves traveling 100km and 2,450 metres up and down the Peak District.

The team will take on the full challenge in a single day with no sleeping or stopping other than to restock supplies and grab a quick meal at the checkpoint.

Their target is to raise £10,000 but have already made £9,699.24 as of the 2nd July. 

Those taking on the challenge this year for The Line Blue Line team are:

Many of the team are taking part in their first Ultra challenge but DS James Clayton is tackling his fifth.

Inspector Richard Lane and Sergeant James Wakefield will also be part of the support crew.

Leicestershire officers are no strangers to Ultra challenges, with teams having previously taken part in The London to Brighton Challenge, The South Coast Challenge, The Grand Union Challenge and The Cotswold Way Challenge. 

The record for fastest finisher from the force is held by Detective Inspector Kenny Henry who finished The Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge of 2018 in 19 hours and 57 minutes.
