The caller told the person they are calling as their bank card has been duplicated.

Yesterday (Tuesday 3rd January) Leicestershire Police received a number of calls via 999 from members of the public reporting a potential scam.

Residents who called 999 had been called by a person claiming to be an officer from Paddington Police Station in London however their name and collar number were both fakes.

The caller told the person they are calling as their bank card has been duplicated and that they need to ring 999 to verify their card details.

Officers have confirmed that they would not ask a member of the public to provide such details.

They are asking people to pass this message on to any family members, friends or neighbours who may be at risk of such a scam.
